What is a Pineapple?
You may think a pineapple is a single fruit but
it actually is 100-200 fruitlets from separate flowers gathered around a single stalk.
A pineapple has yellow flesh.
Its acididty varies from tart to mild.
It is deliciously sweet.
Hawaii and Florida were once
prime suppliers of pineapples to the United States,
but now we primarily get them from Central
and South America as well as Mexico.
An interesting fact about pineapple is
that it keeps gelatin desserts from firming,
due to an enzyme in raw pineapple called bromelain.
